Site facts: how many questions are on the citizenship test
Citizenship Test Questions is a free, independent practice site for four citizenship tests. Here is how many questions are on the citizenship test in each country, the pass mark, what is free and what is paid.

What this site is
Citizenship Test Questions is an independent study site. You practise questions written from each country's official study guide, one at a time, and every answer shows why it is right and which chapter it comes from.
It is for people preparing for the Life in the UK Test, the Canadian citizenship test, the Australian citizenship test or the US naturalization civics test. The US pages are also in Spanish, with the official English questions and the Spanish under them.
The four tests
The numbers come from each test's official page, and each test page links to its source. All four were checked against their official pages on 23 October 2026.

Is the citizenship test hard?
No official body rates how hard the tests are. What each one asks of you is its pass mark: 18 of 24 (75%) for the Life in the UK test, 15 of 20 (75%) for the Canadian citizenship test, 15 of 20 (75%), including every values question for the Australian citizenship test and 12 right answers out of up to 20 asked out loud for the US civics test. The questions come from the official guide, so reading it and passing three mock tests in a row is a good sign that you are ready.
What happens if you fail the citizenship test?
It depends on the country. From each test's official page:
- Life in the UK test: Book again as many times as you need, paying the fee each time. GOV.UK does not state a waiting period between attempts. (GOV.UK)
- Canadian citizenship test: You have up to 3 chances within your 30-day test period; no retest fee is mentioned. If you fail all three, IRCC invites you to a hearing with a citizenship official (30 to 90 minutes). If you fail the hearing, the application is refused and you would have to apply and pay again. (Canada.ca)
- Australian citizenship test: Home Affairs books another appointment, at no extra cost. If you have not passed after three appointments, your application may be refused. Failing does not affect your permanent visa. (Home Affairs)
- US civics test: You get two chances. If you fail civics at the first interview, you are retested on civics only, 60 to 90 days later, with different questions. Failing a second time leads to denial of the application. (USCIS)

How questions are written and checked
Each question comes from one chapter of the official guide, in our own words. Automatic checks run first (one right answer, no duplicates, answer letters spread evenly, numbers and dates matched to the test's fact sheet), then a second, independent review against the guide. The US questions and answers are USCIS's own, word for word.
The test facts were last checked on 23 October 2026. How we write and check our questions.
